Martin opens Northside Paint Plant

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin TD, is today (Friday 16th July 2010) opening a new €2 million state of the art production line at the Dulux plant on the Commons Rd marking a new phase in the firm’s 125 year history on Cork’s Northside.

“I am honoured to join the team of 140 employees of the historic Dulux plant as they embark on a new chapter of their history in Cork. The investment announced today not only secures Cork jobs but ensures the company continues to lead the way in terms of paint technology and innovation.”

“As a former Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment I am particularly glad to see this facility at the forefront of innovation as well as research and development. The management team and the workers in Cork are showing a determination to meet the current economic challenges by being at the forefront in terms of new developments in their industry.”

“Dulux is a prime example of how an Irish run company has grown to become part of a global success story whilst still maintaining a strong commitment to its Irish origins. In the current times, Ireland needs businesses based here to work to attract international investment. The opening of this new facility is a testament to what the Irish economy requires to take it into a period of sustainable growth.”

“In recent months despite the challenging economic climate we have seen significant announcements with firms like Voxpro, Abtran, Eli Lily and now Dulux working to ensure they are in prime position to avail of the upturn. The work and investments they are implementing now will secure jobs in our communities into the future.”

“I want to wish the team at Dulux every success into the future, and encourage them to remain at the top of their game by being first with new developments in the paints sector”, concluded Minister Martin.
