Fingal Co Co gets significant increase in housing adaptation grants – Kennedy

The Fingal County area will benefit from a significant increase in funding for housing adaptation grants in 2010 according to local Fianna Fail TD Michael Kennedy.

“Fingal County Council will receive €2.625 million in housing adaptation grants from the Department of the Environment to ensure independent living for older people and people living with disabilities.”

“The initial allocation for 2010 is over €800,000 up on last year’s.  This is a significant increase and will be of huge benefit to people in the area who want to stay in their own homes and communities,” said Deputy Kennedy.

“The Council will use the funds for work on private homes including putting in level access showers, stair lifts, grab rails and access ramps. These measures help people to maintain their independence.”

“This grant assistance has proved to be very popular in recent years and demand is growing. The grant from the Government will go to covering 66% of the costs under the Disabled Persons and Essential Repairs Grant Schemes and 80% of the costs under the Adaptation Grant Schemes for Older People and People with a Disability,” concluded Deputy Kennedy.
