Dublin North T.D. Michael Kennedy is calling on Fingal County Council to establish a time-specific action plan to ensure three beaches in Fingal are of suitable quality for bathing.
"For years families across North Dublin have come to the beaches in the county to enjoy some good weather and the water. However I’m very concerned that many people are going to stay away this year because the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has highlighted that Fingal has the worst-quality bathing water of any county."
"Three of the nine beaches in the county are well below standard: Skerries south beach, Burrow Beach in Sutton and Balbriggan front strand."
"I’m delighted that there are six beaches of good quality in the county. They are a fantastic amenity and I want to congratulate the Council for their work. I hope many families continue to enjoy them."
"However I don’t want the county to be blighted by the verdicts that have been given to three of our beaches. I’m asking the Council to now put in place an action plan, which is time-specific, to ensure these beaches are brought up to standard", concluded Deputy Kennedy.
