Council gets almost €5m to help older people and disabled live independently – O’Connor

Dublin South West Fianna Fáil TD Charlie O’Connor says the allocation of more than €4.7m to South Dublin County Council to improve or extend the homes of people with a disability and older people is great news.

“This is an increase of more than €220,000 on the funding provided in 2009.  There are many calls on the public finances at the moment and I’m very happy to see the Minister for Housing has provided this much needed money,” said Deputy O’Connor, who is a member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children.

“Independent living is very important to those living with disabilities and older people.  They should be surrounded by family and friends and deserve the dignity and comfort of staying in their own homes,” said Deputy O’Connor.

“This money will be used to put in level access showers, stair lifts, grab rails and access ramps.  It’s going to be a great benefit to the people of Tallaght and across the South Dublin County Council area,” concluded Deputy O’Connor.
