The Chair of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee, Fianna Fail TD for Meath West, Johnny Brady has urged local farmers to apply on-line now for their Single Farm Payment.
“The 2010 Single Farm Payment Scheme is now available for applications on line. The facility, SPS iNet has opened six weeks earlier this year to allow farmers more time to complete their application.”
“Last year over almost 5 times more farmers applied on line than when the facility became available in 2007. Applications can be lodged by individual farmers or by their nominated approved Agents.”
“I am pleased to see that the on-line facility has been such a success. Over 50,000 farmers are now availing of the service, either individually or through their Agent. It is quicker and easier and minimises the potential for mistakes or errors because of compulsory fields and built-in validations. Research by the Department of Agriculture has shown that a high percentage of applications that are delayed are as a result of very minor errors.”
“The closing date for receipt of applications under the 2010 schemes is the 17th of May. I would encourage all local farmers to put in their application as soon as possible just in case there are any errors or need for amendments.”
“Applicants for the 2009 Single Farm Payment Scheme will receive a pre-printed 2010 application form next month.”
“This year the Department will also issue maps to all participants in the Single Farm Payment Scheme to allow for the updating of the Department’s database of land parcels.”
“Those interested in availing of the on-line service can access it at www.agfood.ie or call the dedicated helpdesk on lo-call 1890 252 118.”
“Making applications for the essential Single Farm Payment more accurate and efficient is evidence of the practical support that the Department is determined to give to farm families and I am delighted it is proving to be such a success,” concluded Deputy Brady.
