Dublin South Fianna Fáil Senator Maria Corrigan has welcomed the allocation of almost €7 million across South County Dublin to improve or extend the private homes of older people and people with a disability.
“This is a matter of dignity and comfort for our older people and those living with a disability. Housing Adaptation Grants Schemes are vitally important in helping people to continue to live in their own homes and communities. This is money is being made available for works including level access showers, installation of stair lifts, grab rails and access ramps,” said Senator Corrigan.
Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council has been allocated €2,141,638 for 2010 and South Dublin County Council is to receive €4,766,000 for this year.
Senator Corrigan said: “I support very much the view expressed by the Minister for Housing Michael Finneran TD who said today that a great many people need only very modest support to remain in their homes and live independently surrounding by family and friends. This is very much my experience across Dublin South and it’s very important that we do everything we can to maintain independent living.”
“The funding announced today of €100 million nationally is an unprecedented sum. I am very glad to see that the Minister has been able to make this important investment in light of the significant constraints on the public finances,” concluded Senator Corrigan.
