Galway Bypass Campaign

Ray Owen, civil engineer, and Frank Fahey TD discuss crossing points for the proposed Outer Bypass during a field trip to Menlough Pier on Friday.Galway is the only city in all of Ireland without a bypass - and this is deeply hindering the development of jobs and growth.

After ten years of planning, we've had enough waiting. Now is the time we need to rally around the building of the Galway City Outer Bypass.

A bypass is more than just a road. A bypass will decrease congestion and allow Galway to become a more manageable city to live, work and shop in. It will slash journey times across the city - for example, Barna village to the airport will be cut from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes.

Why hasn't the bypass been built yet? It's delayed by bureaucratic rules and a disagreement on how the Habitats Directive should be interpreted. But I believe we should continue with planning.

We can't hesitate a moment longer. As we all know, the traffic is a growing problem. It's clear the bypass is a pressing necessity.
