Delivering for Dublin South

  • A new Accident and Emergency Department opened in January 2006 at St Vincent’s University Hospital.The Department is part of a new ambulatory care and diagnostic centre built at a cost of €203m, which was officially opened in July 2006.
  • Last year funding was approved for a new 100 bed block at St. Vincent’s.
  • The Green Luas line was opened in June 2004. It stretches from Stephen’s Green to Sandyford.
  • The Luas Green Line extension from Sandyford to Cherrywood is due to open in October 2010. This line will have 11 new stop stretching out To Brides Glen.
  • News schools completed in recent years include Kilternan Church of Ireland National School, Gaelsciol Thaobh na Coille, Cill Tiarnain and Ballinteer Community School.
  • St. Colmcille's Community School in Knocklyon received a new extension providing three general classrooms, two special needs classrooms, an art room and a prayer and meditation room.
  • The Number of Gardai in DMR south ( which comprises the Dublin South Constituency) has jumped from 383 in 1997 to 640 today.
  • UCD has been awarded €62.7m under PRTLI 5 as part of the largest single investment in third-level research in the history of the Irish State. The university has entered the top 100 of the prestigious Times Higher Education QS World University Rankings, having risen to 89 in 2009 (Up 19 places from 2008).
  • There are two Garda Youth Diversion Projects in Dublin South – one in Ballyboden and one in Sandyford.
