What I’ve learnt about the issues facing Bailieborough whilst canvassing
Posted on 03/06/09 by Niamh SmythThis is my first opportunity to represent you and from speaking to people on my canvass over the past few weeks I now know that the most important issues facing the people of Bailieborough are:
1. Unemployment
2. Farmers are struggling with the delay in payments of their grants, exorbitant increased charges for collection of dead animals and the unacceptable low prices for milk.
3. Not enough services for children with learning difficulties.
4. Unfinished housing estates.
5. No Broadband in rural areas e.g. Knockbride, Killinkere, Tunnyduff, Mountain Lodge, Canningstown, Tierworker and many others.
I can assure you that if I am elected I will work tirelessly and conscientiously to make sure that your problems and issues are dealt with speedily in Cavan County Council and the relevant departments at government level.
I strongly encourage you to use your voice and cast your vote on the 5th of June as if you don’t, you will lose your chance to have your say. Please give me your No. 1 vote and I will do my best at all times for you.
Yesterday was yet another gorgeous day out on the canvassing trail here in Bailieborough. I spent the early part of the morning out on the streets of the town with my trusted team of helpers, meeting with locals and looking for their support on Friday. During the late morning and early afternoon we took to the road and visited people in their homes in the Crocknahattna and Leiter areas. In the evening, we visited a number of housing estates in and around Bailieborough and I have to say that while the 5th of June is drawing ever closer, I am amazed with the support and positive reactions that I have received from the people of the town and the surrounding areas.
A number of people commented on the fact that Bailieborough has not had a Fianna Fáil Councillor in the town in over 5 years and that this was one of the contributing factors to some of the problems that we are facing locally. I strongly believe that this Government will be in power for a long number of years and that only by electing a Fianna Fáil representative here LOCALLY in Bailieborough, will we actually be able to ensure that proper services and facilities are provided for the people in this local area.
