Taking my passion for Dublin to EuropePosted on 02/06/09 by Eibhlin Byrne
As Lord Mayor of Dublin I live in the Mansion House with my three daughters, my husband Ken and our bulldog Sam. My background is in family and child support services with the Daughters of Charity. For many years I have been a dedicated campaigner for rights for the elderly and the homeless.
Over the past six years as a Dublin City Councillor I have had the opportunity to meet many people around the city. I have always been keen to hear their concerns and worked hard at a local level to try and solve the issues they face.
I now want to take my passion for Dublin and its people to Europe. I want to work with our European partners to ensure that Dublin remains the driving engine of this country. The contacts I have made as Lord Mayor and my fluency in French and Spanish will mean I can be a very effective voice for change in Brussels.
I really want to get Ireland back on track. I know we can if we all believe in ourselves. Working together we can deliver a better future for ourselves and, more importantly, our children.
